What is Favipiravir ?

Favipiravir is a nucleoside antiviral drug whose mechanism of action has not been fully elucidated. The target is a viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. The drug is converted into biologically active favipiravir nucleoside triphosphate after oral absorption, and its structure is similar to that of purine Chemicalbook, which can compete with purine for viral RNA polymerase. Favipiravir's nucleoside triphosphates can also insert into viral RNA strands, inducing lethal mutations in the virus. Therefore, in terms of mechanism of action, favipiravir has potential antiviral effects on a variety of RNA viruses. Favipiravir can be used for antiviral treatment of influenza A and B. Studies have shown that in addition to influenza virus, the drug also shows good antiviral activity against Ebola virus, sand virus, bunya virus, rabies virus and other RNA viruses.
